I believe that would be true, because if they aren't feeling productive and feeling that they're accomplishing something, they will feel like they've lost or are losing out in life. Basically, they will feel unaccomplished.

Every adult needs to feel productive. If you are in a job you don't like, or don't have the motivation to try something else or better yourself, you do not necessarily notice it , until you look back and say look at the time I wasted, I could have tried to do better, that is when you feel the loss, when it is to late.

Yes. If they feel they really have no need on earth, or no one cares, well they just drift away. I'm sure you've seen what it is like in resting homes, they hardly have visitors, and are barely alive! It causes disorders, too. And that's not just for middle-aged adults, that is for younger kids and older, too. Being ignored and not doing anything, just sitting a twiddling with your thumbs is going to make you less alive by the second.
