The DNA sequence for one small segment of a gene is shown below
ATG GCG TAT GAC CTA

A. what is the nucleotide sequence of the mRNA that corresponds to this gene segment?

B. What are the transfer RNA anticodons that bind to the mRNA molecule whose sequence was determined in question B
Hint: Copy the mRNA sequence below in codon groups and then show the anticodon region of tRNA molecule binding to the mRNA

heellllp. i have no idea. =[

The RNA sequence is AUG GCG UAU GAC CUA

for part B, tRNA's anticodon sequence will be complementary to the RNA sequence. AUG is the start codon. Remember that sequence is usually written 5' to 3'.

So for AUG, it'll look like this....

5' AUG 3' RNA
3' UAC 5' anticodon

Although you may be tempted to read the anticodon as UAC, it should be really read as CAU, if you don't write down any orientation of where the 5' end is.

So for the rest of the sequence....

5' AUG GCG UAU GAC CUA 3'
3' UAC CGC AUA CUG GAU 5'

The first anticodon is CAU, then CGC, then AUA, then GUC, then UAG.

Hope this helps

With RNA, U is substituted for T, so A will bind to U, T will bind to A and C and G bind together. mRNA is made from a DNA template so the mRNA sequence would be
UAC CGC AUA CUG GAU

To get the tRNA just figure out what would complement the mRNA sequence made so you would get (it will also be exactly the same as the original DNA sequence, just replace the "T"s with "U"s.)
AUG GCG UAU GAC CUA

on the mRNA = UAC CGC AUA CUG GAU

tRNA = AUG GCG UAU GAC CUA

Rule
A goes with T (except in cases on RNA where it is replaced by U uracil)
C goes with G
