I guess it makes pessimism irrelevant as well. If you live by fate, I guess there's no point in seeing the good or bad since it was preordained anyway.

Yes, it does. A belief in fate means people can't change what will happen if the outcome is bad. Being optimistic means that a person can change fate before it happens.

That's the difficulty in believing anything; it's an all or nothing kind of thing.
If you believe in fate, you can have hope for the future, but being optimistic is unrealistic; it doesn't allow for all possibilities. Just as you can't be pessimistic.
Being fatalist is frustrating, because you admit that life is outside of your control.

If you qualify any belief, then you don't truly believe.

Of course not. Just because you are fated to an end doesn't mean that you can't have a positive attitude and be hopeful about what you think COULD occur.

No...a belief in fate validates optimism.....that's my take on the matter....or something to that effect...does that make sense? I hope so.....

it depends on what you are being optimistic about....and what you believe your fate is. If you know your fate, good but it doesn't mean you know everything else about life as well. THere are many things you can be optimistic or pessemistic about.

This is the age old question of determinism. If things were going to be done because of a predistined reason there would be no reason to hope that things turn out good. The answer is yes.

Even those who believe in fate still hope.

Not really. You can be optimistic about your fate, meaning you'll like whatever happens.
