Illness, but never do the "I think I'm catching a cold" thing. You have to talk with your nosed plugged up, and then might forget tot talk that way. Have an illness that can't be confirmed from looking at you. Stomach flu is always a good one. No one wants to catch that. Oh, don't forget to throw in the fever, too. That's an illness where you don't need a doctor, but is nasty enough where people will WANT you to stay away.
Good luck and happy holidays!

Ummm...depends on how old you are...and what family you are talking about...If you're a teenager living in your parents house, you have no choice...You will have dinner with them if they say you will have dinner with them...If you are a wife/mom, the family is sick, you are sick and you won't be visiting/having visitors for dinner...etc...Its not that hard to make up something...

I won't know because I don't do that sort of thing. I enjoy being around my family and I don't see why anyone doesn't. I mean they are your family and they won't be around forever if you don't share these times with them now when you can't anymore you will regret it. Not the answer your looking for I know.

Tell them there is an emergency elsewhere... a friend is sick, or a co-worker won't be at work, so you have to cover...
Or, just tell them you're not going to make it... and don't give them a reason. Just say, I'm sorry, but I won't be there this year. And promise to make it up to them.

Make other plans, or buy a non refundable plane ticket to somewhere that is scheduled the day before.

well you can try eating kind of quickly and then say you have a project to do and that it needs to get finished and that your gonna be up in your room all night. it could work. you know how parents are with education. when they see how dedicated you are they will have to let you go. good luck.

You don't....buck up and tolertate the few hours you spend with them. Think about how your parents would feel? What's more important than family?
