She has two jobs, works day and though the middle of night. Has two kids with problems that require meds. They lost their medicaid. She busts her butt to share a can of beans basically. So, my question is,seeing how she works hard, spends all her money on family needs, not booze, not drugs, not fun, just bills, why cant she get assistance? If she refused to work, she'd get the help. She's the kind that deserves it,not those who do drugs all day,pop out baby after baby and dont work. Whats up with that?

The system is set up to ensure that a single mother cannot make it. She can either play the system or get played by it. They are more worried about preventing fraud (which the system promotes), than they are about helping people that really need it.

As far as what she can do:

Contact the manufacturers of the drugs that her children take, sometimes they will provide them for little or no charge.

Do some research about commercial health insurance specifically covering the conditions and medication required, the cost of insurance may be high but still lower than the cost of the doctors visits and medications.

Contact local churches for assistance with rent, medicine and or utilities. Several sources may be required. Many churches use gross income as a guideline, but can make allowances for expenditures.

File for Social Security benefits for the Children with the medical needs. If it is a chronic condition that could be considered disabling, the children might qualify for benefits. If approved for Social Security the children would be enrolled in Medicare and she could sign up for a Plan D that covers the meds.

Talk to the children's Doctors. Sometimes they can dispense sample pack or other meds from the office. They may also cut her a break on their fees based on her situation. They may also be able to suggest alternate therapies that are less expensive or expensive enough to qualify the family for Medicaid again.

Reapply for Medicaid. The cost of the drugs may be enough to lower her income below guidelines.

Apply for welfare benefits. Document her child care costs. If she works a lot of hours she may be eligible for child care assistance.

Unfortunately our Government's priority right now is killing people over seas to free them which will not leave much for domestic programs.

I am sorry to hear about her situation, unfortunately, stories like hers are all too common. I wish her the best of Luck.

I am not sure why it works that way with gov. assistance. I know it happens often though, you can sit on your butt all day and have people pay your electric bill, buy your food, and give you a debit card. Or you can work, sleep, work, take care of your family and they act like the only bills a person has are rent, electricity and water; anything other than that you are up the creek. She could go to churches or she could petition the people that refuse her the assistance. It is sad that America is such a great place that people flock to, but some other countries give free insurance and money monthly to help with bills to families with children.

Because the world is CORRUPT. She sounds like she's made so many sacrifices and it still can't get her everything she needs. It's no wonder every young kid turns to the 'hood on their 13th birthday. Me and my brother used to search through the whole house searching for any dang thing we could sell to save up and help out. Maybe you can find a few things you don't really need or use that could get you some cash. Good luck to your family, I hope everything gets better and I know it will as long as they are all sticking together.

It sounds like to me she is too proud to except any help. I would rather work and pay my way instead of having it payed for me. The only suggestion I can make is to go to a local church or Salvation Army or someone like that and see if you can get them to make an anonymous donation or help her with food or something to give her a break from it. Good luck.

It is pitiful that someone as hard working as she does not qualify for as much as the illegal immigrants and non workers are getting. Perhaps a church or Salvation Army... something like that could help in some way. My prayers are with her.

It's a sad sad situation. Been there done that. Fortunately for me God has brought us out of our time like that. You should call a pastor of a church, they can give list after list of places to go for help with things. Call more than one and get as much as you can. Churches also can help with things, food for one. Most all of them have food pantrys. God Bless her for trying so hard for her family. Best of luck to you all and Merry Christmas.
