If he is really and truly your friend he will not stop being your friend after you tell him that you like him more than a friend...go for it! Head for the goal! If he starts acting weird than you would know that he really wasnt a very good friend because true friends wouldnt do that to you...Look on the bright side what if he says that he has secretly been crushing on you too ever since youve been friends? I wish you luck and I hope you have found what you have been looking for! Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year!

"Hey, do you want to try dating? (pause, wait for a response and repeat if he doesn't understand, then continue with..) I'm not saying it'll work, and it's definitely OK to say no, but I think we should give it a shot.
What do you think?"
This doesn't ruin anything because it gives him an easy way out (you give him permission to say no), and you state yourself that you don't know it will work (as opposed to betting big by saying you're in love with him or something like that). It's simple and won't scare him away, but be prepared to seem absolutely unhurt if he says no thanks.
The future of your friendship depends on your not making a big deal if it doesn't go the way you want.
...Then again, you could always just kiss him on new years, that would work too (oldest trick in the book).

Just tell him nicely and calmly. You shouldn't be nervous and afraid. Besides, you've grown up with him right. So, I guess you really know and trust him. This happened to me already so I know it'd work. If you think it would ruin your friendship, it won't just tell him nicely and calmly. Tell him that you've kept it to yourself for so long because you thought that it would ruin your friendship.
I hope this answers your problem

Do you think he likes you? I think if he would want something more with you...he would of already said something to you..unless he is very shy, or your brothers friend.... those are the only exceptions... for me. Otherwise I always wait for the guy to make the first move.... you know guys, men, boys..always want what they can't have...

just tell him. guys are not like girls, even if he is not interested he will be flattered, and the only way you would lose your friendship is if you ended it.
go f or it
