First of all have you either
a) gone to college and gotten a degree in Theatre Arts
OR
b)gotten some real proffessioal trainging
I can give you real advice since I'm an actor myself and if you haven't done either of those I recommend you do or else its going to be a real rough ride
Mentors and teachers can give you better adice than I can so ask them. There are different stratagies as to whether you want to make it in LA or NY. Once you're sure this is what you want to do you should join the union (either SAG or equity) then get ready for a hard life and hopefully that big break somewhere. I would advise looking fo jobs in either Backstage West or East its a publication that is printed showing all open calls in either the West or East. That's a good place to start.
