Yes. If they are found to be criminally negligent, they should.

Ok, officers are charged when they commit crimes. What you don't realize is that everything the media tells you is a crime, is wrong or is illegal quite frankly is not true.
I'm not trying to be mean, but educate yourself in the subject matter and then form your own opinions instead of letting the media give you your opinions.
A car will in all likelihood kill you. What part of having your life threatened is confusing here? Officers are trained to shoot to stop if they reasonably fear that their life is threatened, someone else's life is threatened or either could be seriously hurt. If the person threatening this violence doesn't stop then the officers keep shooting until he does. This can sometimes mean a lot of bullets, especially when you consider the watered down rounds that the NYPD is forced to use by the liberals who whine about pistol ammunition without knowing anything about the subject.
Look, a car can and will kill a person if it hits them. Bell hit the officer once and came at him again. The standard is, if a reasonable officer would feel threatened in the same circumstances, not if a civilian would feel threatened. I don't think there are too many officers that wouldn't feel that their life was in danger if a car was coming at them.

They shouldn't just overlook it but police get a bad rap, and don't misunderstand me, I hate getting a ticket or being busted just like everyone else, but when you are in trouble no matter who you are they are the ones who put their lives on the line for you. Those cops without doubt got way carried away...the way I saw it described in some paper was it was a phenomenon with police similar to "contagious laughter", one starts to fire then they all keep on......not too funny. I give them more slack than the average guy cause they see so much violence, have people hating them soley for their brave occupation that pays dirt and basically no one is glad to see them. It does sound as if they are possibly negligent, but then again the media does manipulate the truth in any way possible to attrack attention and keep their ratings up. You never know the whole story if it came from Americas news media, and in fact can usually be sure it is far from accurate. There rae three sides to this story, the cops, the victims, and the truth. I'd say they need to be held in front of a jury even if it is a jury of their peers, as this was way over the top and from how it was broadcast, pretty sickening.

Those officers are under investigation by the police department's Internal Affairs department, and have been taken off the streets until the investigation is complete. If they are found guilty of misconduct, they may well be fired, and yes may even face criminal charges and jail time.
Wearing a badge is not a guarantee of getting away with murder, robbery, or anything else. It just makes it harder to pin them down and get the charges to stick.

Police officers are not just upholders of the law, they are supposed to be role models.
Yes, they should be held not just the same standards as the rest of us but to even higher ones.
Along the same lines if they were given the respect due them instead of being treated like trash maybe they wouldn't have to be involved in as many fire fights as they are now and innocent civilians wouldn't be caught in as many bad situations.
It's a two way street people, give and take. Cops don't enter the academy with the intent of becoming bad cops or killers of innocent people.

Yes, of course, but you must understand that liberals in the media and elsewhere hate the police, and many times they could be falsely accused for doing their job properly.
As a sidenote, I would like everyone to e-mail or call their congress people and complain about the marines being condemned for doing their job they were asked to do, regarding Haditha.
That is another example of liberalism and political correctness run amok, and a great injustice that shouldn't be happening.

Yes - they should be charged with a crime. Taking someones life should be the last option. I think most police persons really do not want to have that hanging over them for the rest of their life. It would take a cold blooded person to not care. They have
non-lethal force ... ie stun guns ...etc.

Cops shouldn't be afraid to shoot. They risk their lives in that job. Let me ask you this, should soldiers be punished for friendly fire?
If the crime was proved in court, then obviously, yes.
