i think it so silly that people would be offended by merry Christmas. It's wishing one well and that they are happy. If someone told me Happy Hanukkah I would not be upset, I would say thank you. People are to frickin sensitive . In my opinion say whatever you celebrate, it ;s not like your saying screw you!

I like Merry Christmas. But that is just for me. I think the stores need to keep it, Happy Holidays. They are providing a service to more than just Christians.

I think everyone should be able to say which ever they prefer. I personally say Merry Christmas. I do not think businesses should be instructing their employees to say Happy Holidays. They should be able to say Merry Christmas if they want to. Maybe next year if we feel so strongly about a business only wishing us Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas we shouldn't shop there. We can find a business that will wish us a Merry Christmas to spend our money in.

On one hand I prefer Happy Holidays as it acknowledges all religions that have winter holidays around Christmastime. At the same time, I say Merry Christmas just as often. Someone who is buying Christmas decorations, gift wrap, etc, is not going to be celebrating Hanukkah or Kwanzaa. The stores don't know or care who belongs to what religion (if any) and what they are celebrating. Target, Walmart, wherever are not going to ban customers who are Jewish, Pagan, Atheist, etc. I work at one of those aforementioned stores that is supposedly famous for being anti-Christian and anti-Christmas, I say Merry Christmas to customers all the time and my supervisors allow me to say whatever greeting I choose.
In response to your edit, this country was not founded on Christian beliefs. The founding fathers professed to be anti-Christian, believe it or not. Read anything they wrote about their religious beliefs and it will tell you. The "under God" didn't come around until the 1950s with McCarthy's witchhunts.

I think you should only say Merry Christmas to your family members and friends. Happy Holidays should be used when you don't know the persons religious background.

Merry Christmas worked for how many decades, now because it's 'politically correct' Happy Holidays is taking over. Same as using "In God we Trust" on money and in the Pledge of Allegiance in school. This is the United States of America and we were founded by our God fearing fathers. I think it's great if other ethnicity's want to keep their religion and holidays, but let the descendants of our four fathers keep theirs as well.

I like Happy Holidays because it includes everyone who is celebrating this time of year. It is also including the New Year and Thanksgiving. From Thanksgiving on, there is Ramadan, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, New Years, it includes everyone. If I know the person or it is Christmas day, I would say Christmas, just like I would say Hanukkah to a Jewish person.

I think using Happy Holidays is trying to bunch of holidays together for a reason which has nothing to do with Christmas. The first five letters of Christmas are Christ! Christ is the reason we celebrate the season. I guess it is alright, but it is good to remember that because of Christ, we all have a chance at a new life and a new lease on heaaven!
