As far as I am aware, there is no requirement in any pageant system (Miss America, Miss USA, etc) that explicitly states that you cannot be gay. However, you do have to sign off on a statement of conduct, so if someone wanted to put up a stink and say that being lesbian was poor conduct (I'm not saying it is - I'm saying some think it is) it could probably be an issue.
I know for certain that the Miss America system makes you sign off saying you are not, and have never been, male. So if you're transgendered or a cross-dresser, you're out. At least they covered that alternative sexuality.
This latest Miss USA scandal was more directly linked to Tara Connor's positive drug test, underage drinking and missing appearances - although her kissing Miss Teen USA just added to the list of 'inappropriate behavior'. Whether or not she's lesbian doesn't really matter - I think they're more upset about her PDAs and being wasted.
But she still has her crown!

Sure, anything is possible. This is what I learned in some of my classes. Most of us have two selves, the public self and the private self. The public me is perhaps an actor which may contain some of who I am but not all. The private self is one where I am totally who I am, probably just around friends/family and at home.

oh, I don't know the official rule for this but I really don't imagine they'd have thought of that.
Who cares what a person's sexual orientation is?
If they are beautiful they should win.
That's just me.

It doesn't really matter if she is lesbian or strait as long as she is beautiful, and a good role model, she can remain Miss USA! Plus lesbians and gays can do anything strait people can!

I don't know about the rules, but if they do say that she can't be a lesbian, I'd say that was grounds for a lawsuit.

I don't think they could prohibit someone from competing because they were a lesbian, or the ACLU would be on there butts in a second.

Yes, she can. I don't think there is a question about sexual preference when someone fills the application to the contest

I don't think they really care about her sexual preference. Although, they were mad. It's kind of like an unstated rule.
