i'm with you on this. though some would say that actors in hollywood films are overpaid more than footballers. well at least good acting is more crediable and they have something to to show for it, rather than kicking a bloody football around the pitch for 90 mins. though its not just footballers but also athletes of other sports who are earning over thousands and millions for bouncing a basketball, plying their trade in baseball or american football. i think that there should be a cap on their salaries- yes some would say this will make people think twice before considering a career in football or whatever- but isn't the whole point of sport about taking part and being successful as a sports athlete, as opposed to doing it for the money? but anyway the amount of money high profiled footballers get these days is unjustified and implies in a way that money does pay when it does not

If your "Footballers" are ANYTHING like American Pro Football players, I would have to agree with you. I think that a wake-up call is in order. Not just for the players, but the owners as well, and anyone that makes money off the commercialization of sports, but that will only happen when everyone stops supporting the teams, games especially by paying high dollars for the game tickets and the purchase of merchandizing products.

You can't class all footballers in the Cashley Cole mould.
Supply and demand.
Theres a lot of money in football. If you are exceptionally good at what you do, you deserve to receive high payment.
Lol at you mongs trying to have people's wages restricted. Yeah send Rooney back to a council house and pay him £175 a week for playing for Manchester United.

Well according to normal people like us, they do get paid immensely !! But as per their value add to the football clubs around the world, considering the advertising contracts, the ticket & merchandise sale, they deserve to get paid a good percentage of what they help make for the club !! So i think its all right for them to get paid the way they are ! In the end they do entertain us !!

I suppose one must look at professional athletes like entertainers. This will help put the salary wages in perspective. For example, Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt don't really do anything for society that isn't anything more than publicity stunts. And yet they command huge salaries from their work...acting in front of a camera. Is acting harder than sports? More challenging? More competitive? Dunno, personal opinion there. However, an argument can be made that sports are just as entertaining as anything at the theatres. People want that atheletic entertainment.

In your nation do firefighters and ambulace workers make a lot of money? It comes down to simple Econ 101. How much time and money do you spend following "football" as opposed to, say, going out on fund drives to help firefighters? There's your answer.
It's simple market economics. They are worth what the market is willing to pay them.
A far greater issue for me is why can't footballers shoot properly anymore and therefore soccer sucks now as it's way too low scoring.

I think the wages are obscene,if they weren't so greedy (managers too) then savings could be passed on to the working man who actually pays these wages. It's getting that the average family man can't afford to follow his/her team simply because of the ticket prices-cos of the wages.

They are paid the going rate, yes they get paid too much, the PM gets £132k a year and runs the country, Andrei Shevchenko gets paid as much in a week to be rubbish, but they are paid what the going rate is.

No one else hopefully. The people get banged up for our entertainment, when they retire some of them can hardly walk or anything else so I think they should be compensated for the fact that they may not be able to work again.
