Humans are strongly affected by smell, usually more so the other senses. Smelling something will cause strong memories to surface and if they are associated with something nice, like the scent of her perfume it can be very powerful.
Chanel No. 5 is a lovely scent Unfortunately, it's been around for along time and a lot of younger women can't use it, because the previous generation did. It's hard to feel romantic when your lady smells like your mom or aunt mary.

I'm A guy and I say you don't need a ton of perfume why don't you use a scented shampoo that smells Way better. Well perfume does work but only on really classy guys, to tell you the truth I hate perfume and it's smell.
