There's lots of reasons possible why.

1. Your connection went caput, fiddle with the settings to get it working again, or restart the router and/or modem.

2. File could be corrupted, or possibility a dangerous file.

3. The web host of the page shut down.

4. Your friend might've uploaded and canceled it before it was done downloading, thus, again, corrupting the file.

Try opening the document in Notepad. If that works, copy the contents and paste them here. People who know HTML should be able to interpret it.

The HTML file could be corrupted. Have then resend it.
