My

A couple of days ago my girlfriend started using this Q10 Night Cream from Nivea. She said it has been a year and a half that she used it. She remembers having some minor depression back then but she never thought it would be caused by a cream like this. Now, that she bought it again she is suffering from mild depression and headaches but she is not sure if the cream is actually doing this.

Anyone has had this problem or has heard of something like this?

Please let us know!!

Take care

Hello:
This is in response to your question about a possible link between nivea Q10 cream and depressive symptoms.
There are no ingredients in this particular cream that has been linked to depression or symptoms of depression.
I think that her use of the cream and the onset of depressive symptoms is more than likely coincidental.
Many over the counter products and prescription drugs have side effects that can cause depression or melancholic symptoms however, topical creams do not have anything in them that are linked to depression. The amount of the chemicals and additives in these skin creams are so miniscule that absorption into the body system as a whole in negligable.
I would have your friend keep a log/diary of her symptoms, how she is feeling at different times of the day, what she is eating, any stressful situations, any medications (prescription or over the counter). This way she may be able to pinpoint something responsible for her symptoms.
Another possiblility is that during the cold months when your skin is dry, a lot of individuals will have a seasonal "affective" disorder (winter blues), so if she is using this cream during those times, it would make her think that there is a connection between use of the cream and her depressive feelings.
I hope this helped answer your question.
I hope your friend feels better soon.
Regards,
Warren Shaffer, M.D.
PS. I read some of the other responses you received. I wonder where this particular person got his information in telling you that skin cream "definately" causes depression????? Consider the source.

I don't use nivea anymore but i used to use it when i was living at my mom's because that's what she would buy. I noticed that everytime i put some on my face after a shower i would get really bad headaches. i diagnosed myself as "allergic" to an ingredient in that cream and stopped using it ever since. no more headaches!

Well something like this happened to me but while I was using Retin A and Benzaclin. All I did was stopped using my medicine or in your case your cream. The red spots then went away. I did apply moistrizer/sunscreen to my face everyday and the irritation soon went away. I would get a new face cream you may be allergic to it. Hope this helps!

depression is not caused by topicals, but if she is having headaches, those could definitely result in a mild depression if she is unaccustomed to having headaches. Suggest she discontinue use.
