My doctor gave me a prescription for fluoride drops for my 2 weeks old baby, is that safe??

I started my son on fluoride drops by our pediatrician recommendations when he was about 6 months. The reason why children need them is because it helps make their teeth strong and protects them for a lifetime of use. I have a friend in her 30s who had no fluoride growing up her teeth are so weak, falling out, and she has so many cavities. I did find it was annoying giving my son fluoride drops everyday so I buy that nursery water they sell that has added fluoride and I just give him that to drink or cook his pasta or whatever with it. Hope this helps! Good luck.

I strongly recommend that you not give the flouride drops to your infant! Flouride is a known carcinogen! Many times doctors either don't do their research or follow the guidelines of the pharmeceutical companies who, by the way, publish the medical books from which our doctors learn. There is a huge conflict of interest there since pharmaceutical companies receive exhorbitant profits from the doctor's prescriptions and doctors do not research natural ways of prevention. Go to your local health food store and ask them what they recommend. Listen to your Mom alarm when it comes to your child(ren)! It's there for a reason and doctors really don't know everything. Although they have good intentions, doctors often times unwittiingly put us and our children in harms way through, believe it or not, their ignorance. There's a reason the medical field is called a "practice', because that is exactly what it is
Hope this helps!

You don't even know if your water has it or not? I'd definately try to find out before giving extra drops. I never gave my son any drops; we did start using very small amounts of fluoride toothpaste when he cut his first teeth at 8 months.

I would not. That is to young of a baby. You should wait until at least 6-8 weeks.Babies do not need fluoride as we do,until later.

Probably, seeing how it's from your doctor. If you're not comfortable with giving drops you could try Nursery Water. They sell it at Wal-Mart, and it's spring water with the trace amounts of flouride that baby needs.

I would suggest asking the pharmacist and pediatrician

its unneeded. theres nothing to suggest that adding flouride to your diet, especially at an age that young, benefits anything.

i'd wait until its a toddler or older.
