I got my nails profressionally done, acrylic. Can I fill them myself? It's Christmas weekend so I doubt the place will be open and I think I need a fill, I want them to look nice for Christmas.
If I were to go about filling them myself, how would I do that?

It you haven't worked with acrylic nails before you might have a hard time getting them to look smooth. It takes practice. People go to school to learn how to do this. Both my mother and aunt were manicurist so I learned by watching them over and over.

You'll need:
acrylic
primer
cuticle cutters
black nail file
buffer
and nail polish
brush

1) remove nail polish
2) push your cutcles back
3)cut any stray cuticles
4)file the area of acrylic nail near the cuticle that you will be filling
5) dip brush into primer
6)dip brush into acrylic
7)apply acrylic to area and mash into place until it covers all the area that needs to be filled and a small part of the acrylic nail. Do this to all nails
8) file acrylic until it is smooth and blends perfectly.
9) buff nails
10) wash hands
11) polish nails

It sounds easier than it is. It's difficult to do someone else's nails when you don't know what you're doing. And even more difficult to do your own. I would personally save my money and it done professionally.

I've done it myself.

It helps if you're ambidextrous, because you need to use a small paintbrush to apply the material after you've softened the cuticle and pushed them back with an orange stick and rough the exposed part of the natural nail with an emery board (and make sure you get the antiseptic, anti-fungal stuff so you don't get an infection). You also have to be really careful because the acrylic lumps if you do it wrong, so then you'll need a nail clip (not nail clippers, these are pointed snips that look like small pointy-tipped snub-nosed pliers). The you need to use a rough emery board to smooth the nail, then you use a special 3-side buffer.

I honestly would suggest you get them filled (and painted). The cost of start-up on the materials would be prohibitive. Call around right now and see if you can't find some place to do a fill. Just watch out for the mall shops -- I have had gorgeous nail jobs completely destroyed by those women!

Go to a local drug store and buy the acrylic there. The set usually includes the powder and the liquid as well as a brush. good luck... buy youself a filler also and some clear nail polish.

you CAN, but i would NOT suggest doing it....

yeah, they won't look pretty-- that is for sure! there is a reason why there is cosmetology school. it takes a great deal of practice & teaching to be able to make them look good. you need a lot of tools too.

it will proably look better if you just wait-- trust me! it is NOT as easy as it looks. these people have put in so many hours doing nails, that is why they can do it so well.

there are places in like Wal*Mart and they have fake nails there. if you find the right ones, they have acrylic in them so that they look like you really got them professionally done. you can get that and fill them yourself! <<3
