We just installed new carpeting in a store and the employees say that the smell of formaldahyde is overwhelming. Apparently the glue that they use to put the carpet down contains the substance. They say that they are getting red eyes by the end of the day. Does anyone know how to get rid of the smell of how long it takes to dissipate

It took about 3-4 weeks in my home when we installed new carpet the first time. You can expedite that process though. The second time our installer told us to sprinkle some Borax on the carpet and let it sit overnight. Vacuum it up in the morning. It will absorb the fumes from the glue. I think I did it a couple of nights in a row before we didn't smell it anymore.

Open the windows and doors and get the fans going. You need to move the fresh air around. That smell is over powering and may lead to health concerns. It may only take a few days to a week depending on the size of your store. For a better answer call the company that installed your carpet. They should know. That's what they do!
