No one can agree. Anywhere between 1-10%, with most media quoting 5-10%.

Why is it so difficult to figure out? How do you define a lesbian?
*Sexual behavior - The gender of the people one has committed sex acts with.
*Sexual orientation, preference, or inclination - The gender of the people one has a spontaneous sexual attraction to.
*Sexual identity or self-identification - The demographic label one chooses to describe oneself to others when referring to one's sexual orientation

Recent cultural changes in western and a few other societies have enabled lesbians to express their sexuality more freely, which has resulted in new studies on the nature of female sexuality. Research undertaken by the U.S. Government's National Center for Health Research in 2002 was released in a 2005 report called 'Sexual Behavior and Selected Health Measures: Men and Women 15-44 Years of Age, United States, 2002':

The results indicated that among women aged 15-44, 4.4 percent reported having had a sexual experience with another woman during the previous 12 months.

When women aged 15–44 years of age were asked, "Have you ever had any sexual experience of any kind with another female?" 11 percent answered "yes".

So 5-10% of women sounds about right.

P.S. If any morons ask "What do they do sexually?" Go here and learn something (if you ever get a girlfriend, you might just have a clue about what to do):

I don't know but I believe there are more than most people realize. I am a retired CPA and prepare tax returns during the tax season. I have seen my workload constantly increase each year with the alternative lifestyle couples. The thing that surprises me most about the women is that you would never know that they are a lesbian and most are quite attractive. The guys are another story.

A lot less than some would have you believe, but women have a fluid sexual preference mechanism. All homosexuals are probable very less than 5%, regardless of the social science data.
