Ok.... we have a gift basket company. We filled a order for 20 baskets. We gave almost a $100 discount off of the entire order b/c we "thought they were friends" anyways. We delivered the baskets on 12/20/06.... the lady still hasn't paid. She got mad at us b/c we asked for the money.... so we could order more of our product. Do you think that it is too much to ask to be paid in a timely manner & before Christmas??? She got a major attitude and is totally being rude. I just wanted to know your thoughts about this. As if the holidays weren't stressful enough.... then we have to deal with a rude person.

Thank you for all comments & answers. Merry Christmas!

A lot of places make you pay before getting the baskets. So no I think if you give the merchandise then the money should be paid then.

You've a right to expect payment on delivery. Unless there's a contract stating otherwise it's a cash-and-carry deal. Although it's nice to have a cordial relationship with your customers you're not obligated to extend them credit (that's what Visa cards are for). Pack your bags, your customer is attempting to run a guilt trip.

You were not wrong in asking for a payment, she was rude for not paying you. You provided a service for her and you should be paid for it. I hope you have a Merry Christmas too.

Tell her she either pays for it or she has to send them all back. You aren't a credit card company, you're not going to allow her to get something she can't or won't pay for in a timely manner.

If you want to stay in business, you collect the money upfront. "Rude" doesn't happen when you bill first and deliver after payment. It's your business, you decide now how you are going to run it.

Maybe you should have customers pay first or at least give a deposit next time. Some people have no class or common sense.

She needs to pay. Why isn't she paying? Bad lady. Yes. When you get something, you need to pay for it once you have received it.
