HTML=HyperText Markup Language. A HTML document is simply a file which contains HTML instructions and other content. In your web browser, there should be an option somewhere to "view source." (or maybe "edit page") First, click somewhere on this page to make sure the page has focus. Next, click on the menu browser edit or view source option and another window should open, and in the new window you will see the raw HTML which makes up this page that you are reading this very moment. (The browser option may say you are editing the page, but really you aren't. Yahoo! won't let you save any changes.) The browser interprets these instructions stored in a file to render the page as you see it in the browser. Do a search for HTML tutorials and I am sure you will find hundreds of sites with information on HTML at all levels of expertise.

HTML document is a page that browsers render and display on the screen.
In order to read HTML, you'd need to learn the syntax. Look at htmlgoodies.com or w3c.com for HTML tips and tricks.
