No, seriously: tradition has it the "flying" of witches was really about taking drugs like belladonna and being able to hallucinate flying. It may be that tradition carried over to the stories about Santa and his reindeer, as "magic" in a mysterious form. Many, many characters in legend are able to fly, after all.
