musicians! is it safe to plug a bass guitar into a guitar distortion pedal?

my bass player wants to use my Boss DS-1 pedal, but i don't know if it's safe for him to do that. if he did, wil anything get damaged?

It's not a problem as long as he's running his bass guitar through a bass amp. You can run an electric guitar through a bass amp without a problem but if you run a bass guitar through a guitar amp you'll blow it up. P.S.: You can run virtually any effect you want using a bass guitar and a bass amp with no problem.
