Hi All,

Moving to the San Francisco Bay Area for a job. Most of my work is in Redwood City. I'm new to the area and would like your thoughts on good neighborhoods to rent an apartment. I can live anywhere in the Peninsula, not just Redwood City. Thanks!

If you plan on spending time in San Francisco (like over the weekends), then San Mateo and Burlingame are convenient locations. You'll be 15 - 20 mins away from Redwood City (heading south) and 15 - 20 mins away from Downtown SF (heading north). There are also good restaurants nearby - check out 3rd & 4th Avenues in San Mateo and area around Burlingame Ave in Burlingame.

The neighborhoods are safe (you will want to be sure you're on the right side of the tracks...literally...general rule of thumb, be sure you are located west of the train tracks...and don't get an apartment too close the them or else you'll hear the trains at night).

Apartments are more afforable in San Mateo, too.

Apartments in Palo Alto are pretty expensive... if your getting a good paying job, then yeah, Palo Alto is a good area.

Mm.. Some parts of Mountain View and Los Altos have good neighborhoods. I really like Los Altos. The environment is really nice. Belmont has some nice apartments, too, and it's really close to Redwood City. But you have to be careful with Belmont because many areas are kind of "shady," for lack of a better term.

Good luck!

Yes, Palo Alto is nice; East Palo Alto on the other hand can be quite dangerous.

Hope you have a good paying job.
