You knew it before you got married--so why does it annoy you now??? Not all men are that way--there are alot men who love to cook and are damn good at it. Love your husband for who he is--at least he does the dishes and helps with other things--open your mind to what he does for you not that he doesn't cook.

The only place where people see a woman cook is on the Cooking Channel. The TOP TWENTY CHEFS of the world were ALL MEN until recently. I'm not the only one who thinks that men are better cooks than women. Gorden Ramsey has quoted saying the same thing. The traditional view of women being the house hold cook has made women see cook as a chore and just something to get over with. However, men that have taken to cooking have discovered the art and time management skills that they may use in their career can so easily be applied to cooking and the end result can be a little taste of heaven.
As for your husband, he's a sexist dumb-*** and you can take an a$$ to the kitchen but you can't make them cook.

Real men cook and the statistics prove it. Women gave up cooking once upon a time because they were freed from doing it all of the time. Most men get into it nowdays...check out the food channel. So it's one of two things. Either he was raised to think it's womens work or he just doesn't know how. Either way if he loves and respects you he would make some sort of effort. Since he's washing dishes he can't be all bad. You might try cooking together or ask him to chop some onions or something while you guys just hang out. Take the pressure off the whole thing. But you know even guys who think its womens work have their thing that they like to make, a manly meal of steaks or something. To not cook at all? Hmmm.... If nothing works..... start making lousy food until he gets the idea that he needs to try.

My husband doesn't like to cook, doesn't want to cook, and doesn't know how to cook. It's absolutely fine with me. I don't like, don't know how to, and don't want to run power tools, pull wiring, install new light fixtures, fix computers, texture and paint walls, hang posters, fix plumbing, clean the garage, build book shelves, install video projectors, move heavy furniture, and work my a** off to pay the mortgage and other bills associated with owning a home in the most expensive city in the US. Being that my husband does all of this, and more, I think my contribution of cooking him dinner every once in a while is only a fair trade. I even do dishes and laundry. Does your husband not do anything at all that could count as pulling his share of the load? Does he not work, or do other household chores? If not, the problem is not in his refusal to cook, but in the fact that he is a lazy a**. But I'm sure he does other things besides cooking... Give him a break on this one.

Have a heart and leave him be . He was raised that way and no way is he gonna change now. He washes the dishes and that's awesome and a lot of work .
Just one thing though I want to add: if you have sons, be sure 'YOU ' get them into the kitchen and teach them a few things . I made sure of that with my own son and a good thing it is, his wife is a Princess , too lazy to cook for him and the kid . He comes home at night and no activity around the stove . What a bleak way for a family . I keep my mouth shut like I well should but hope some day she will change .
Have a nice Christmas !

I cook. Maybe he just sucks at it?
I cook out of necessity. I like it, but I'll be honest when my wife tries to cook we usually end up having to order something.
OK so he does the dishes. Maybe one is your job one is his?
Is this REALLY that bad?
If this is the biggest problem in your marriage you guys are doing awesome. I mean I won't clean the floor because she'll just do it again anyways because I do a lousy job. But I clean the toilet and change the cat litter. We both wash the laundry, but she folds it. I mow the lawn and keep the cars clean/working. I make sure the bills get paid, she follows the kids homework/school more closely.
BY THE WAY there is NOTHING worse than food cooked by someone who was pi$$ed off. You might make him cook but you won't want to eat it.

I am sorry to hear about your husband’s fear of cooking. However, it is not true that men won’t cook. Many of the world’s best chefs and cooks are men! I know many other men who cook as a hobby.
Maybe he was never allowed to cook as a child or he had a bad experience like burning down the house or something. Maybe you can gently encourage him to start small. I am sure you can use your wifely charms to encourage him along.
One more thought. The Food Network has shows with very manly men cooking up fabulous meals. Perhaps you should start watching that some more when he is around the house.

Well unfortunately you had prior knowledge that he did not cook or wanted to cook prior to the relationship. Hence I would say not to open that can of worms. However, if he is willing to wash the dishes that is awesome and get him to do that. In regards to the generalization of men not cooking, that is an unfair generalization. I do all the cooking in the house and always have. That is a pretty large brush that you are painting everyone with.

You can't change someone especially if you knew that he didn't cook in the beginning. It is unfair for you to generalize that all men don't cook. It was your choice to marry a man that did not cook and you shouldn't make a big deal of it now. What should you do??? Well what's for dinner??
Not trying to be harsh but you answered your own question. You can try talking to him and maybe he might try to cook. But don't make it an issue now.
