Turnpike. I also think of lightbulbs..isn't 'sylvania' a brand of lightbulbs?? Actually, I like PA, it's a big state, so it's different depending on what part you're in. One time I drove through Pittsburgh and I was really surprised at how hilly it was! Harrisburg is good too, my roommate from college lives there. Scranton can't be bad, especially if there is really anyone like Dwight Schrute living there, and the King of Prussia mall near Philadelphia was pretty nice. Also, I knew a guy from Easton, near Allentown, and he wasn't half bad, so I guess overall Pennsylvania has a positive connotation for me!

I have a few things that come to mind :

1 - VERY poor economy
2 - small backward towns
3 - pro teams (Steelers, Eagles)
4 - unneccescary arrogance and social disconnection from the people.

Now, let me explain...I LOVE Pittsburgh...the people are friendly, and there's a lot of stuff to do. The rest of the common"wealth" can take a flying leap though. There's no money there, the cost of living is disgusting, and their state government is soooo corrupt it's sickening.

Dutch country; the state where the Steelers, Penguins, 76ers, Pirates and Phillies play. Where U.S. Steel first started. Hershey corporation is located (mmmmmmmm chocolate). The Poconos.

Amish.

That was because my first real recollection of PA was a childhood friend of mine who was from Lancaster, PA. He came from an Amish, or at least a Mennonite background.
