They don't test for much, and the cases that have happened so far have been self-reported drinkers, not druggies. There are certain things they don't test for, like pseudoephedrine.

About a year ago, Dick Pound, the head of the World Anti-Doping Agency, came out and said that over half the NHL players are on steroids. He said this without data or examples, so I think he was just blowing smoke and trying to get headlines.

I don't think steroids would help hockey players. Hockey players need flexibility in the upper body like no other sport out there. If a guy got too strong in today's NHL, people would skate right past him.

Number one steroids are only good for Big Enforcers if your not using them for injury purposes but your average hockey player doesn't use steroids it doesn't help to put on an accesses amount of weight in hockey alot of player such as Jason Peters are tryin to lose weight to become faster and more agile because the Enforcers role isn't coming in to play that much any more with there being less than an ave. of 1 fight a game.....Hockey players Drink take Pain Pills and smoke some Pot other than that you dont have a problem

they do a text on players throughout the year and the only player that was tested positive was Bryan Berard. so steroids aren't that big in the NHL or even hockey. yes you do have allot of NHL players that love to drink but that mostly it. most hockey players are build solid as a rock but not muscle popping out everywhere like in American football, Baseball and Basketball, most of them are on steroids several a week in those sports are tested positive every year.

jp - a majority of the people using steroids use them to recover from injury, not to bulk up.

the nhl's policy is very vague, and thats where dick pound had the problems. its not that they dont test for everything, but they have lenient punishments. drinking and pain killers seem to be the biggest problem in he nhl.
