Why the government of the US asks you if you're "non-hispanic white", but don't ask you if you're "non-hispanic black" or "non-hispanic asian" or "non-hispanic native american"? Do they think that there are no blacks, asian and native americans in Latin America? If you're black hispanic what should you choose, black or hispanic?

Yes that's exactly what they think. They can' t imagine an Asiatic or Black looking person who speaks Spanish as their native language. They think "Hispanic" means Euro-indian mestizos only. But that's just an example of the ignorance and lack of historical and cultural knowledge you will encounter in this country.. they think everyone can be categorized and labelled so that it makes it easy for stereotyping people instead of looking at them as individuals.

On most forms I've seen, there has been Non-Hispanic Black as an option. The only one I can completely explain is why they wouldn't have Non-Hispanic Asian. Mixing of races in Central America and the Caribbean between Hispanic and Black blood was relatively common, since Blacks were slaves in those regions as well as in the U.S. Past mixing of Asian and Hispanic wasn't very common in that time, since there weren't many, if any, Asians in those regions. Now, if someone is mixed Asian and Hispanic, they'd probably label themselves to be mixed.
Most people that have Native American and Hispanic ancestry would normally label themselves Hispanic. Mixing of Hispanic blood and Native American blood was prevalent in Mexico, Central and South America.

You choose hispanic, if you choose black, then you'll be saying that you're African american, and that's a big mistake. I think the calification is right, because the US has an excesive rate of inmigrants of any part of the world, too many races.Take us, the Hispanics for example, we have so many races among us (black, indians, halfbreed: darker blacks, lighter blacks, white people, but many times they are not so white because they have some black in the family, and so on) So, can you imagine that if you are in a situation like that, halfbreed, you have to specify whether you are blacker or whiter, it would be insane.
So, what's the best solution: HISPANIC, that way you wont make your life and Inmigration workers's life so complex.

um if your a black person from lie mexico or venezuela they would not check hispanic, thats like if u are a white person from africa your race is white but ur nationality is african, nationality and race are 2 different things. i am an american that is my nationality, my race/ethinicity is africa-american u have different races all over the world we are just the most diverse. u have black europeans does that mean there race is caucasian/european, what eva said up there dont make sense

another thing is they need to stop askin race most of us in this country are not a 100% of anything they say that 1 in 25 white people in the u.s. have some black in them, i have white and native american in me, so does that make me black as in the sense of African, but i am mostly that which means i am that, i mean back in the day if u were 1/4 black u were seen as black which is wrong!!!!

when they ask you those questions they are asking where ur ancestors originated from basically my one job applications asked for your race and next to white they had people who are of european decent and for black they had people of african decent, so if u are from latin america and is black u check black that is ur race. and like i said the person below me is wrong. i mean if i am from asia and im black do i mark asian, no my nationality would be asian but my race is black

when u say black u think african-american because that is what they call us here, in africa they dont have to worry about calling someone black because they all are. my friend is from zimbabwe and she just says she is black she is a black person from a different country, she never says she is african-american

If your born in America then your American not this African American crap. If you want to be refered to as Afican then move there. And hispanics that are black should choose black and so on for other races. They are asking for your skin color not your country of origin.
