It is when a manager removes a pitcher and a position player at once in order to switch them in the lineup so if the number 9 spot comes up(which is typicall where the pitcher hits) a position player fills that spot. It usually only happens late in games

A double switch is when a new pitcher enters in the last hitting spot in the lineup, and a new position players then comes it. Sound difficult? Let me explain. The cardinals and tied with the Astros 4-4 in the 10th inning. The cardinals just batted, the 5-6-7 hitters all got out. Chris Carpenter is pitching for the cardinals. Now, Tony Larussa can make a double switch. A new pitcher will come in, and instead of the pitcher hitting in the 9 spot. He can now hit in the 7 spot. So now it will be 8 more batters until the pitcher comes up.

double switch occurs when a manger replaces two players, one of which is usually the pitcher at one time.
Technically it is done only when the pitcher is hitting and is due to come up to bat when his team gets its next turn.
The manager "replaces" the pitcher with a position player in the batting order, e.g. a 2nd baseman. ANd then replaces the 2nd baseman with the pitcher.
When a manger makes a change they don't have to make a true position for position switch.
This enables the mamnger to put a stronger hitter, pitchers usually aren't good hitters, in a slot to hit at a key point in the game and to replace the pitcher at the same time.

Usally occurs in NL only. ITs when you pull your picther and another player say LF. you then bat the new LF in the pichers spot and the new pitcher in the LF spot. Normally done if the pitcher is up the following half inning
