I have always heard if the baby's heartbeat is 140+ beats per minute that your having a boy and if it's 140- your having a girl. This was true with my first baby, i had a boy. I am now pregnant with my second baby but we don't find out it's sex till 20 weeks and when i went to the doctor today(15 weeks) the heartbeat was 147 beats per minute. Has this old wives tale proved to be true for anyone else? should i expect another boy when i go for mu u/s next month?

Actually I heard the wives tale just the opposite---- less than 140 is a boy. I had a girl with my first and she was always around 170, I'm pregnant with #2 (and don't want to know this time around) and it's been tricky. At first we were about 147, now we go to around 137, and anywhere in between.

During the beginning of my pregnancy my son's heartrate was in the 160's, then about my 16th week it went down to the 140's and stayed there. Oh, by the way, the chinese charts said I was having a girl! My son was born on 8/11/06

i had always heard that if it was over 140 it was a girl!!! and under 140 a boy.
The first few times that i heard my babies heartbeat- and it was in the 150-160... everyone swore that I was having a GIRL.... and they all continued to try and tell me that I was in fact having a girl... until I had my ultrasound and found out the sex.. and it was ..... A BOY~
He just always had a fast heardbeat..

Actually, a girl's heart beat is suppose to be faster than a boy's heart beat. There are too many contradictions in all of this, so you really can't tell. Have you tried looking at the chinese birth chart?

Well this is not true in my experience. First baby was a boy and his haertbeat was always in the 160's. This baby is also a boy and his heartbeat is always in the 120's to 130's.

I've had 4 kids, three boys and one girl, and it didn't work for me. I recall seeing my second little boy's hearbeat in the high 120's. My little girls was recorded over 150 on more than one occasion. I don't really think there's a lot of truth to it, but it can be fun. If you're interested in the thrill of guessing, I suggest you do a search for gendar predictors. I think the Chinese gendar calendar is always fun.

Actually, it's the other way around. It's said that if it is a higher heartrate it is a girl. In general baby girls have stronger hearts. It was true for me in two of my pregnancies....but with this one....her heart rate is about 135 on average and she is definately a girl.
Besides...it's just a myth. Wait until the ultrasound.
Good luck and Congrats!
