they shouldnt be on the road, im my opinion. they dont pay tax or insurance, and riding at 5mph, side by side, on 60mph country roads if just dangerous.

if you havent got the room in a field for a horse, you shouldnt have one

Horse riders are the same as bicycles etc., and you do not have to pull off the road to let them pass. Should they be on the same side of the road as you they will be travelling in the same direction. You keep behind them and overtake at an available opportunity, avoiding loud revving which may startle the horse. Some places in England (Dartmoor and New Forest for instance) have wild horses roaming the area, and they have to be treated even more carefully.

Horses are allowed to use any road except motorways and roads where there are signs prohibiting them, at night they MUST have lights on either the horse or the rider.

They have as much right as cyclists etc etc, but they shoudl stop occasionaly to allow motorists past if they are slow. Motorists are advised to slow down and pass wide, and if you deliberatley startle a horse by sounding a horn or revving loudly you could end up reported for driving without due care and consideration.

Don't be stupid of course you don't have to pull off the road completely to let them pass just be courteous and careful (I thought that as drivers we were meant to be that anyhow). They are allowed on the public roads and are expected to treat them with the same respect as any motorist.

A horse and its rider have automatic right of way over a motor vehicle as does a swan funnily enough. Both are considered the Queen's animal.

They have more rights than you. They are not allowed to use the pavement. If someone has actually pulled off to let you pass, then you've been shown a rare courtesy.
The rules are ,.. be patient lad.

No you dont have to but it is safer for your vehicle and the Horse.

Horseriders have the same rights as any "vehicle" on the road (see highway code)
