I have been finding chewed up clothes in my basement where I do laundry? Does a mouse do that?

First sign of a mouse in the house is that classic arch shape cutout in your baseboard, there is also usually a triangular piece of cheese laying right next to it. Yes, it will be swiss. Failing that, I'd look for any tiny clothing... think: Stuart Little.

Seriously, yes, look for shredded paper, bits of seeds left behind and the dead giveaway: mouse turds which look a little like large dark brown caraway seeds.... check under your sink, in kitchen drawers, basement and garage...

You can buy a have-a-heart trap which will catch the little rodent and not kill him. You bait them with peanut butter... Good luck.

Mice or rats can cause some serious damage to your home and belongings. Besides the obvious chewing of your possessions, they can also damage the infrastructure of your home, chewing through electrical and other lines, creating the potential for fires.

Finding out if you have mice or rats is fairly strait forward, first, look for signs of chewing (which in this case has been seen).

Second, look for droppings, which resemble small oblong brown pellets.

Third, listen - you can often hear rodents moving about or chewing in the evening.

Forth, and the most technical and fun, get a small hand held black-light (check your hardware store) and in a darkened room, turn it on and sweep it along suspected rodent runs (close to a wall, the backs of counter-tops, the edge of the floor, backs of cabinet interiors, etc.) If the rodents have been there, you will see glowing areas. Why? Because rodent urine glows in the dark! Yeah, kinda cool.

If you do have rodents, you need to do two things, remove (kill or capture) them, and block any entrances into your home so the problem does not repeat itself.

Oh yeah, one very important thing, do not leave clothing laying around or in cardboard boxes, by doing this you are creating the perfect nest, and one of these days, you will pick up a piece of cloth that contains mice.

Good luck and happy hunting

Yes, mice do chew clothes. also look through your cupboards & drawers in the kitchen & bath. Are there any food packages with little chewed spots on them?? Also look for little poopies in these same places.
If you are still not sure, just go to the store & purchase some De-Con pellets. They come in a little dispenser box & all you have to do is open the box & place it behind the washer or dryer, behind the refrigerator or in lower cabinets where animals & children can NOT get to it. Then you don't have to worry about it, the De-con will take care of it. There won't even be any odors....

Yes they will chew clothing. I would say to look for droppings.
My daughter left a stuffed animal out in our garage and awhile later we found it with all the stuffing chewed out of it.
