Would there be a symptom? How dry should clothes be when they are spun up? Would your clothes be wetter if this coupler was defective? Does it eventually become less efficient? How do I know when it is bad?

The coupler is a direct link between the main drive motor & the transmission. Think of it as a replacement for the belt on older washers. They are prone to breakage. If it breaks , the washer will not agitate or spin. It will pump out though.

The coupler is the "drive pin" that snaps instead of the shaft, like on an older outboard motor. It goes between the shaft and the drive in the gearbox to take up the slack. nothing will work if it goes, you will fins small plastic parts and dirt? in a round circle under the machine. It's very easy to change, I just did for $12.98 and fort-five minutes.
