It is the first player who cannot move. I had the strategy of not moving my back row and getting at least one king which I never put in danger. Then as my opponent runs out of moves I win.
And to A J yes there is a version where you have to jump and there is another where you don't have to jump. My strategy works for when you don't have to jump. Most of the computer versions of checks I play require jumping. So I have had to adjust the way I play during those games.

When there is a tie do rock paper scissors, thumb war, or arm wrestle. Or you can play another game of checkers and whoever win that game wins the other game too

Typically the first person who cannot make a move would lose, but if you are playing a nice game with the kids, its probably a good time to say "oh its a tie!" and go make cookies. I'm not saying that kids cant lose every once in awhile.

If a player cannot move, he automatically loses. This means the FIRST person who cannot move. If it was your turn and you moved, and afterwards your grandson couldn't move anywhere, he lost the game. It wouldn't matter that you can't move because it isn't your turn. That's the rule. I know it sounds strange, but I've played a lot of tournement games where that has happened.

I'd have to disagree with the draw thing. I say whoever has the most pieces left on the board wins.
