this was about a week ago and im still in pain ... is this normal?

Well, this should have gotten better by now. Maybe you have a vaginal injury or something like that ? I'd get checked by the doctor if this doesn't get better in few days.
The thing is sex is not supposed to be painful, even if we're talking about a big penis here. The vagina is supposed to accomade everything that is being inserted in. Think about it, it can accomodate a baby so why couldn't he accomodate a big penis ? I haven't seen to date a penis the size of a penis head !
What happened is that you may not have been really aroused and relaxed when you had intercourse or you may have bruise something down there, which is most likely since you say the pain have been there since a week.

If you are still in pain then he went too fast or too hard. Should you decide to sleep with him again, make sure he goes slower and that you are wet enough, use lube if you have to. Also if it was the first time ever for you, it will hurt for a bit, but not a week. Soak in a warm bath for a while.
