patience. can take a couple months. let her get used to u. let her smell u & hear u talk to her every day. don't wake her. play with her on her time. get her out with the glove and then sit down on the couch and let her crawl on u. this lets her get used to u. u can pet her as she walks on u. stick your hand where she can smell it & talk to her every time u pass her cage. feed her small bits of food daily. eventually try to pick her up. i dont advise any kind of physical abuse when she bites as it may scare her more. i would though make a sound she associates with bad behavior--with mine i make a kind of nasally ahhhh sound---kinda like a parrot maybe? lol hard to explain. if u tug her ear like mentioned she associates the hand with bad things--this is why a sound u dont normally use is better.
good luck

THAT is precisely why I own Rats instead. Hamsters bite out of spite and just for the hell of it. A hamster bites like a dog barks, its just part of being a hamster. If you like rodents, a rat is a good pet because they only bite when frightened. Over the past 2 years I have owned 15 different rats at various stages of life. They just don't bite. They make wonderful pets if you can get past the fact that its a rat.

Put him in a cage with our own Yamster and his nunchucks. He'll learn good manners or die.
Oh, you said sensible answers only. Sorry. Besides, now I notice you said it was a girl. Yamster wouldn't hurt a girl. Might make her too busy to bite you though . . . want a whole bunch of little hamsters?

I used to have hamsters, they woul dbite me too, but not very often. I think it is out of love. What I did was set up some pillows on the other side of the room and when the little fckers would bite me I would let them crawl into a Christmas paper tube and I wold shoot them out of it like a blow dart across the room into the pillows. Sometimes I missed.

Hamsters are rodents. Therefore, they are predisposed to "nibbling" or "biting" practically anything. When my kids had hamsters years ago, I would "tweak" their ear with my finger every time they nibbled on my hand. Not hard--nothing to hurt the little booger, but just enough to get its attention. It soon learned to associate nibbling on the handler with an inevitable annoyance to itself. It's a mild, humane form of negative reinforcement for bad behaviour..
