In my country people feel this is a personal matter and shouldn't impact on a career. However I note that in most Western countries - especially Protestant ones (mine is Catholic) - that is not the case and heads are usually expected to roll over affairs e.g. UK, US. Should a politicians personal life matter when it comes to judging their suitability for office?

i don't think so.

a politician can be adulterous and still be a very good leader. i personally don't look to politicians as my moral or ethical compass.

also, i can only think of a few occasions where a us politician has resigned over an affair (at least at the national level). i'd guess that MANY politicians have affairs but i wouldn't think they are unfit for serving.

An affair outside of ones marriage should not disqualify any individual from an elected position. I believe that there are situations that do require resignation, (witness the recent problems with representatives Cuningham and Foley who did resign), but a sexual affair between consenting adults does not fall into this catagory.

Well the logic is this. If they cheat the loved ones in their personal life, they will cheat their constituents without a moments thought. So yes, a personal life does matter. .

i'm a Democrat. definite, mendacity bastards might want to step down. The hooker case is punctiliously diverse in that soliciting prostitutes is a separate crime. i trust that those who're able to mendacity in the back of the backs of the persons they proclaim to care the most about, and whose eyes they could see at the same time as they proceed to lie, are completely able to screwing over their faceless, nameless resources basically the same. those at the on the spot are not the idiots i choose in public workplace.
