How does my newspaper carrier receive my tip if I pay for the paper online?

There's a box for me to enter my payment amount and a box to enter an optional carrier tip. Does the newspaper then take the carrier tip and add it to his or her paycheck? I'm interested in the details of the process.

My carrier includes an envelope in the paper.
