Did Colonialism screw up the world or made it better?

It depends.

Colonizing North America was NOT a good deal for the indigenous population. However, it brought various groups of free thinkers, from different backgrounds, togethr in a mix that produced the first genuine broad democracy in a republic. It also produced a mix that has given the world incredible advances in every part of life. Without colonialism, that could not have happened.

Colonizing Africa was a bad deal for the Africans, and not such a great deal for the colonizing powers. Oman (an Arab country) was the first colonial power in Africa and took slaves. The second colonial power in Africa was from the area now known as Morocco (more Arabs) and ran an incredibly lucrative slave trade for several centuries. Europeans followed by several hundred years, never did get as good as the Arabs at capturing and selling slaves. In fact, it was the European colonizers who stopped the slave trade. So, Arab colonial powers started a slave trade that was stopped by European colonial powers.

Colonialism in Asia was a catastrophe for everyone involved.

Colonialism in South and Central America, as well as in Mexico, was a disaster for the indigenous populations and for the colonizers.

On balance, colonialism has been a negative. To ignore some of the positive outcomes, however, especially in North America, is to close your eyes to reality.

In general, when the purpose of colonizing another area is to rule other people and to take treasure of some sort out of the area, things go badly. When the purpose of colonizing is to separate yourself from a bad situation and run your own life, things go a bit better. When the purpose of colonizing is to spread your religion, that has never worked out well for anyone.

Prior to colonialisation of varios lands, peoples boundaries were set by natural geology, such as rivers, or canyons. When these boundaries were elliminated by the colonialists, confrontational groups were thrown together. Tutis and Hutu in Rwanda/Burundi etc. Mass extinctions, Tainos in the carribian, Amerindians inNorth and South America, Opium trade in China by the British. OOO it gets so ugly. Maori were hunted for the bounty placed on them. Palestine was divided into Jordan and Israel. Pakistan emancipated from India. Bangaladesh from Pakistan. Iraq should be divided into 3 states. We shall see.
