Conservatives hate everything that is good and decent, and all terrorists are conservatives.

I think it depends on which terrorists you're talking about. They're not all the same. If you're talking about Al Qaeda, Bin Laden's tapes originally claimed that it was because of the way his people were treated during the first Gulf War. I personally think that it's rooted deeper than that, but I don't know the reasons for sure. There are a lot of people in terrorist organizations that have been brainwashed into believing they're doing the right thing. There are also others that have joined out of revenge. They have had brothers or sisters killed by Americans (or whoever), and they see a group that is killing the people that killed their relatives. They join to fight back.

First, it depends on which terrorists you're referring to. Different groups have different agendas.

In the case of Al Qaeda, for example, their "demands" have been clearly stated (though rarely reported) from the start. They are:

1. Removal of U.S. troops and military bases from their "holy lands." To them that means Saudi Arabia.

2. $100/barrel oil prices, with a large percentage of the profits distributed among the peoples of Arab states.

3. That the U.S. discontinue the practice of "propping up" what they see as corrupt, illegitimate regimes in the region.

Agree or disagree, it's as simple as that. They couldn't care less about Brittany Spears and McRib sandwiches. The claims that they attack us because of our society, our politics or religions is nothing more than hyperbole used by both sides to whip up their respective base constituencies.

terrorists originate overwhelmingly from saudi arabia. The saudi regime is highly oppressive and the royal family controls all the oil wealth and there is poverty and very limited hopes for people who are not part of those families. Logically, you would expect them to rebel and overthrow the House of Saud. However, the House of Saud controls the biggest holy sites in Islam and it is in way deep with the leaders of the very fundamentalist Wahhabi sect of Islam. They also control the education that the Saudi populace has access to. So instead of teaching them how they are oppressed by the House of Saud, they teach them to relate to the Palestinians and see it all as one struggle common to Islam. So they tell these people that their suffering and their oppression is the fault of Israel and America, rather than the same political and religious leaders who are doing the teaching.

This is why the only way to fight terrorism is to eliminate our dependance on foreign oil. As long as the Saudis have the money to prop up their regime, they will continue to encourage and promote the mindset and beliefs that foster terrorism.

I could not give a rats a** why anybody hates us. I also think that when scums hate you that is just a badge of honor. Many people like you just need to open your eyes and think. The most perfect man in christianity Jesus Christ was butchered wasn't he? You need to stop worring why someone hates you and just do the right thing the rest is irrelevant too many in our society worries why everyone don't like us, I consider these people naive and boderline dangerous because they are the type than end up being the appeasers of the world.

All the people above have very poor knowledge of the outside world and rely on Fox Network for their knowledge- it's really rather sad.
There are many reasons why terrorists hate America- but if you're asking about Islamic terrorists- I'd suggest the following:

1. America's unwavering support for Israel. It's not that the Arab world reject teh notion of the state of Israel- they all have major issues with teh fact that the UN decreed that Israel should return the land it has occupied illegally since the 1968 Arab-Israel war. America is one of the very few nations that recognise Israels claims of sovereignty over this illegal Israeli occupation of land that does not rightfully belong to it- remember all the carry-one about Lebanon and some farms- it was a very small area- but Israel has no real right (though they make excuses to be there).

2. American installation and or support of American-friendly dictators. Did you know that the CIA has some very dirty hands? The CIA deposed the former King/Shah of Iran to replace him with the Ayatoillah Komeini which backfired creating a super-religious theocracy now intent on destroying the American demon.
Saddam Hussein was aslo a product of the West- very much feted by Reagan, Thatcher and Bush Snr- they were the ones that supplied him with the nerve gas and other such nasty equipment intended to be used against Iran in a provoked Iran-Iraq war. Then Saddam turned out to be a bit nasty and fell out of favour as he turned these weapons on Kurds, and then decided that he wanted Kuwait.
The Saudi monarchy is ridiculously close to American and British petroleum interests. Superficially, that shouldn't be an issue- but teh Wahabi monarchy is an abolute monarchy meaning that the monarchy becomes obscenely wealthy, has total control over society and is rather nasty to its own citizens.
3. America's presence in the Middle-East: te presence of US soldiers, especially female soldiers who drive vehicles and do not cover themselves and often do quie the opposite offends local sensitivites to the extreme. If you can imagine what an annoying American tourist can be like- imagine some femmo Marine wearing a bra-top in a very conservative society- does not go down well at all.

Furthermore, American intelligence, has made life for many people in teh developing world hell. For example the CIA leaked a memo of 300,000 Indonesian Communist sympathisers who were then promptly rounded up and killed, culminating in a US-sponsored mililtary coup installing un-elected, military general, ex-President Suharto into power supplanting democratically elected and Socialist-elaning Sukarno. Suharto then ruled the country with an iron fist for 30 years, killing many people, removing their human rights, violently suppressed opposition and letting the country slide backwards via US and Western backed IMF loan schemes.

If Americans, being intelligent and compassionate people, truly knew the horrors of the dirty games the military and intelligence play to keep American interests stabil, I am positive they would be disgusted and vote these bastards out of office.

All of the above are fully documented, and the bibliogrpahy is far too long to include here. I hold a PhD in Asian Politics.

Here a summary of the main reasons:

1. U.S. support of Israel
2. U.S. support of Middle-East dictators
3. U.S. military presence in their countries
4. U.S. arrogance
5. U.S. occupation of Iraq (is probably the main reason for new terrorists.)

Certainly no-reasons are:

1. Jealousy - They do not want to be like Americans their ideal of a society is totally different than yours.
2. Democracy - There are many democracies they don't hate. I don't believe they care what your political system is.

There is no simple answer. I think you will find that it is mostly religiously based. They are taught from birth to just HATE the Jews (call them apes, pigs, etc). I have done a lot of research and talking to Muslim and Middle Easterners (Iranians - who like to be called Persian, Turkish, Jewish, Egyptians and others). I work with some and they are very nice people, but they seem to hate Jews (this is when they usually stop being nice). Try to defend Isreal to any of these people and then you will see some of their niceness wear off. I know this from talking face to face with the above mentioned people. I love talking with these people to learn how they think. I like to know where people are coming from and how and what makes them "tick" so to speak. These people (95% of them Muslim) are very nice people to work with. They are very courteous and kind. But don't talk nice about Isreal.

Like I said, there is no easy answer, but a LARGE part of WHY they hate us is because we are a Super Power that backs ISREAL. That is the core, everything else is additives to their hatred.

If you really want to know more info about the middle eastern mindset, I found a treasure of a website, it is a non-biased (and it really is, just see for yourself!) because they show everything - what some would call the good, the bad and the ugly.

Check it out: http://www.memritv.org

Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) is a service that provides a translation gateway from various Middle Eastern languages to English by captioning. MANY Media outlets use this site for reporting news.

Here are a couple that I found insiteful:

WHY DO THEY HATE ISRAEL?

Now that's the really important question to ask and understand!

Here is one source (this is a factual for the Isreali point of view)
This is a very brief, simple and easy to follow visual presentation:
http://www.levitt.com/misc/israel_history.html

Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Israel

I found these very helpful.

A hate driven (you fill in the blank) has no value or substance! When has hatred ever helped heal anyone or anything? It only causes more of the same (death and destruction).

I find that the haters end up pointing their finger while three of them are pointing back at them. They tend to be good at twisting and spinning everything around as though, they are the victims and thereby excusing their explicit targeting of killing as many INNOCENTS (defined as non-military or non-threatening people) as possible. It is scary and sad that there is not more outcry on this grossly immoral behaviour. Instead, we seek to appease? There is another word for appeasement, it is called enablement or empowerment for the one being appeased.

Go back to your history books about how we were pulled into WW1 and WW2. By trying to appease Hitler, England signed treaties to stop him from invading MORE territory.. This was a joke and so is appeasement still.

We need PEACE through Strength, that is the only way.

I did not say it is my favorite way, it is simply the only way when you are dealing with a violent and powerful enemy.

Have we forgotten that we did not choose this war? The 911 report showed that our LACK of ACTION led to this! We were attacked on numerous occassions with no response from us. We showed our weakness by pulling out of Somalia. We dont have the stomach, nor do we really understand what war is. The important thing to note is that we did not choose this WAR - We WERE PROVOCKED! God help us have the strength to stand up for ourselves and be strong! We would have never won WW2 or WW1 if the US and its allies sought to understand why the enemy hated them. We simply had to annihilate them. It is sad that we cannot have another alternative. Anyone who criticises this approach does not usually have a real alternative that works. They tend to favor appeasement. That has never worked, and it never will with this enemy. PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH!
