I just found out that I'm pregnant. But i have a huge problem I DO NOT have any health insurance. Does anyone know what I can go through without having to pay so much for my delivery? Can anyone tell me if it is wise to go with the Maternity Card?

Contact your local Social Services Office. The government usually has programs for pregnant women with no insurance. There is usally a small co-pay or if you fall under certain guidelines you may not have to pay anything at all for prenatal care or delivery.

medicaid is the most effective and helpful insurance for an uninsured mother-to-be. as well, the baby will be put on medicaid after his/her birth until they reach the age of 18. i've never heard of the Maternity Card.

Social Services will definately help out. The other option is to contact the hospital and work out a cash prepayment. They will give you a discount and you make payment throughout the pregnancy so that it will be paid for when you deliver. Many ob/gyns offer the same option.

Go to DSHS and apply for medical. Apply for everything you can. Here in WA a woman with no insurance has almost no upper income limits for medical for herself during the pregnancy and the birth, and its easy to get medical for the baby after he/she is born. Depending on your income, (make sure you ask about it when you go to turn in the application) you may also qualify for TANF and food stamps.

Also, contact WIC. They are great resource for getting things like cribs, prenatal vitamins, and other stuff you may need.

Call your local department of human services. They will review your finances and then tell you if you qualify for medicaid. This will pay for your doctor appointments and the birth as well. Then check into the baby being covered as well so all his/her pediatrician visits will be covered.

A program called Women Infants Children or WIC can help you. WIC can get you in touch with Medicaide .You can also go to your local Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood can give you prenatel vists at low cost and put you in touch with someone that can help you deliver at low cost.
