The true Christmas Spirit comes from within your own heart. The world in general has shifted away from what Christmas is actually a celebration of. The world has made Christmas commercial, focusing on material things and has forgotten the true spirit of Christmas. When you can look at Christmas with an eye single to the birth of the Savior, The Savior of the entire world and look into the spirit of eternity, then and only then will you come to find that Christmas Spirit you so desperately seek.

Here's the words from a song by Steve Earl: "...nothing but a child could wash those tears away and guide a weary world into the light of day...

If the world would replace Xmas with "Christ"mas then the spirit & glory of the Lord would shine all about us and once again guide a weary world into the light of day.

I wish you a very Merry Christmas.

How old are you? Every since I've been an "adult" I've found that Christmas isn't that exciting. I'm not crazy with anticipation about what will be under the tree, and I don't have enough money to give anyone else anything that is SO exciting that I can't wait to see what they think. Plus I'm not religious, and I can't stand Christmas music. It is nice to get together with family for Christmas, and have time off from work, and eat some good food, but other than that, what is there to be excited about?

I'm eleven years old, and yet, as someone who still has about a fraction of his innocence left, I just feel like...well, like Christmas just isn't Christmas anymore. I feel like nowadays it's just a holiday that acts like a leech: sucking away all their money. It IS probably the weather (I live in San Antonio, where it never snows; not even south of the border.) But, it's probably the fact that I don't believe in Santa anymore. Back then, I used to always have that excitment of waking up on Christmas morning expecting to see everything I wanted and had wrote to that jolly fat man had suddenly come to my house. But then my mom had to ruin it with telling me the truth. I would still believe in him, but, it's just not the same. That's my reason. But it's probably because I'm getting older and realizing I don't need any of this stuff.
If any of that ever helps or just makes you even more or less into the Christmas spirit, let me know. My email's jhn_pesina@yahoo.com

I agree completely. Although ive found that this year everyone has gotten off work and school later than usual and everyone just hasnt had time to get in the mood. I finally got off today and am going christmas shopping tomorrow (wow day before christmas eve ive timed that well havent i). But dont worry, come christmas eve you probably will feel more christmasy. In the mean time light some cinnamon candles, heat some mulled wine and sing christmas carols to your hearts content.
Have a good one, merry christmas. : )

Sounds like you have a broken heart and will not admit it.

Christmas is depressing to a lot of people. Not because they are not Christian, but because of all the hype of expectation.

Its like if someone tells you that a Movie is really really great, you expect to really like the movie. But then you see the movie and even though it was pretty good, you are disappointed because you expected it to be "Great".

You said, "I usually love Christmas". See, you yourself set up yourself with high expectations in the past. you expect things to be great, when they are only "good" you are a little disappointed.

Christmas is not "Great", People showing love toward each other is "Great". It just so happens it is contagious during Christmas Time.

The key to happiness: (From one of my books)

"Appreciate your lot in life." - Appreciate what you have.

And, just how can you appreciate what you have?

Visit and help some people that less fortunate than you.

Volunteer at the Salvation Army, or some other charitable organization. Or just drive through the slum areas of your town.

PS: To me, you baking cookies with your mother sounds like a really fortunate circumstance.

I wish my mother was still alive.

I feel the same way i have watched Christmas movies til i can't see straight and baked cookies, you name it. But i cannot get into the Christmas spirit. It may be the weather. Its December and its 65-70 degrees outside and today its raining and on Christmas Day their is a 70% chance of rain.

I'm looking forward to christmas day, but i'm not as excited as i used to get when i was a kid. When i was young i had an advent calendar and got more excited the more doors that were opened.
I think christmas changes as you get older, so some of the xmas spirit disappears (along with believing in father christmas).
I'm trying to bring some of the old spirit back, but i don't think it's possible to feel that way again. But it's not going to stop me making the most of it and enjoying myself :-)

I have had this problem for years and I honestly feel that it is because of the commercialism & my in-laws. I'll just say that they feel like they have to keep up with the Smith's since their last name is Jones! Spend so much money it's ridiculas but they have started to get better the last few years, not spending quite as much money.
That is not what Christmas is about~we should celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ by showing His love to others and I don't mean buying it. By giving freely our time, compassion & love to all around us.
In spite of all of this I hope that you have a very wonderful & joyous Christmas!
Merry Christmas & happy New Year!!!

Merry Christmas!!!

I too baked cookies to no avail. That is, until I took a plate full over to my skanky, loud, obnoxious, drug dealing neighbors. I really dislike them, & have even called the cops on them before....But Cindy Lou Who said that the Holiday Cheermiester should be the person who needs cheering the most. And if she can nominate the Grinch...then I can take my good-for-nothing neighbors Christmas cookies and smile and say Merry Christmas.

It felt really good! And I feel Christmasy now!

Me neither. I may perceive myself as a Christmas freak (hint: my info) that's because I normally am but this year. . . it's not the same. It feels like more modern Christmas gets, the less traditional it becomes. I remember making cookies with my mom, filling stockings, and singing Christmas carols [my fav is Away In a Manger (it's not Christmas w/o it lol)] I thought I was the only one. I don't know what's wrong with me either.
