My question is solely based on comments by Condoleeza Rice made today, where she said she believes "a black person can be elected" to the Oval Office.

She said the issue of race is still something that will be with this country for "a very, very long time". But she thinks the country is ready for a black President.

What do you think?

I think at some point, when we get a credible and qualified African-American candidate, then we will get one as President. I think the closest we've come is someone who never ran, which was Colin Powell.

I think it may be a while. reason.
1. The black democratic candidates are to liberal and even scare some liberal democrats.
2. The black republican candidates aren't "Black Enough" for the majority of black voters.
It may be a while before we see a black president, not because there are not some well qualified candidates, but do more to racism on the part of the black voter.
While no self respecting republican, and many democrats, would not vote for a Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton, A Condy Rice would
receive overwhelming Republican support, but not be supported by the black voter and not being black enough, whatever that means.

yes, american can elect an african american president when the time comes.we can use the case study of south africa when white dominated the country for many decades but the jinx was broken when nelson mandela first became the first black president in south africa so with that i think african american can still become a president in united state of america in the nearest future

Yes, how about either Obama or Colin Powell? Obama got a lot of pull going on, and Powell is a nice centrist able to attract anyone.

no. not anytime soon, unfortunately. MAYBE if a black man ran against a woman, sexism would trump racism. other than that, we'll just have to wait til cross-breeding makes different races a thing of the past

In all honesty not in my lifetime or children's I don't believe. There is too much hatred out their yet. Not to mention I haven't seen a good enough candidate in my opinion worth voting for. Their will be eventually but I doubt I will be around to see it.
