RELAX, don't be nervous. yes youare getting closer, but you need to start having regular contractions and dialating before you are ready to have your baby. 80% effaced is good and it means that your cervix is getting ready, but nothing else is going to happen until youstart having regualr contractions. If you are close to your due date then yes it is close, but there is not telling how much longer you have. It sound like you are approaching your delivery date. One way to know is when youstart "nesting". You will suddenly get a huge burst of energy and want to clean and prepare your house for your new arrival.
Just remember to breathe and relax. THe longer your baby is in your womb, the better off your baby is.
Good luck and congratulations

Could be today, could be 3 weeks from now. 1 cm isn't a big change (the width of a finger tip) but 80% is a good progress. You'll probably dialate real quick once your water breaks. Just be prepared and have a phone handy and your bags in the car. :) Congrats- it will be soon! If you'd like to speed it up, grab your partner and take a small walk- don't go too far from home though and bring a cell phone.

Well, you are far along as far as efacement goes, but you can stay one cm forever! I never got past 1 and had to have a c section. But, in most normal cases you probably don't have much longer. I would say about 2 weeks at the most. But honestly it could be a long time or in a couple of minutes. People who are not effaceed or dialated at all can go into labor in an instant with no warning. Good luck!

Well you are getting closer....there is no way to tell when you will actually go into labor tho. This is your first baby. I was 100% effaced and 3 centimeters dialated before I actually went it. Take some walks or excercise a little. Might help go along faster. Its exciting tho! Congratulations!!!!

I was 3 cm fully effaced, and 40 hours later popped him out. However, I did have a very long hard labor and delivery, all done in the comfort of my own home

You are not getting nervous its anxiety. It just means your getting closer to your due date. Remember: when your in labor try not panic just relax and take it slow for time moms it may take longer so keep that in mind. Once you know it, it will be all over. Enjoy being pregnant. Go shooping, walk, take your pregnancy picture before its too late keep your mind and body busy. Oh! very important pack your hospital bag next to the door or place it in your car along with the baby car seat if you already have one.

yes, you are well on your way....once your cervix is completely effaced (completely thinned), you will hopefully start to dilate faster....once you get to 3 or 4 centimeters dilated, you should be having contractions that are 4-5 minutes apart....that is what they call "active labor'.....you should be in the hospital by then!!!
congrats!

Sorry dilation and effacement really don't mean much.
Maybe you will go into labour soon, maybe you will have a short labour. Maybe it will be a week or two.
Don't worry though the baby will come when he/she is ready!
