I mean, how often does anyone need to carry 8 GB of data around? You can get them all the way up to 64 GB; but at $2800 it's hard to imagine who would use that.

You'd be amazed at the usefulness of large USB drive capacities. A reason for a USB is that it's easy to use, usually doesn't require software on the PC to access, and it's very small in size.

At my job I use a 20 GB USB drive to store a lot of information on such as documents and ghost images (software install packages) that are needed for computers at the business place here when they go bad. Very portable and useful when there's not a network connection present.

2GB for a flash drive is pretty small for today's technology but it's still plenty for small stuff like school work/music files/pics/etc. Word/Excel files don't take up much space unless they're like 100 pages long...but still, that won't even make a dent in the 2GB of storage. Music files aren't that big either but if you have alot of them, then you'll need to get a bigger USB drive. Just imagine, I have a 5GB mp3 player, I've only used up around 3GB of space and I have over 200 songs on it. Pictures can vary because you have cameras now that can take like 10-12 megapixels with translate into about 2MB per pic. So if it was just picso n the flash drive, you could probably hold about several hundred pics easily. Now if you were just planning to use the USB flash drive to transfer these types of files from one computer to another, 2GB is good enough. But if you were planning to use the USB flash drive as a backup device, that's definitely not going to be enough. You should just go online and buy yourself a Western Digital brand 250-500GB external USB drive. That will be a good amount to backup all the files on your computer + plenty more space....and they come in all different colors to match your style.

Applications and videos are probably the only two things 8 GB could be used for. Serious music lovers may also use one instead of a MP3 player. An 8 GB flash drive would be useless for most people because of the huge price tag, and a much cheaper, larger capacity external hard drive would definitely make the most sense for most people who need to transfer many large files from place to place without a laptop. Hope this helps!

I dont know why you would pay $2800 for a flash drive, when you can get an 80gb External Hard drice for $100. The hard drives are getting smaller and smaller.

But I have on 80g for work... so I dont need to carry my laptop to and from work.

I also have an 80gb for movies and pics.

What!!!!!!!! are you kidding me? You could use it to back up data on a desktop, and you can even make it another "virtual"external computer. (Read about U3 Technology) I have evn heard of it being used as cache, or for external Ram! There is limitless options that you could do with that much memory. I have 3 hard drives for one computer I use so much data!

so they can carry their info for their pilot, laptop, desktop and anything else they can save on to it. it is nice to carry around so you won't forget your important documents like a resume or other word documents(these are for the forever I -forgot-my-paper-again) type of people. Other than that it is a total waste of time to carry everyday especially if you are not a computer junkie.

Well for starters there would be less cd's to burn. People collect data like they do junk, they need some place to put it don't they.
