I was almost 35 when I took Clomid for the first time (for the same reason you are considering it). I got pregnant the first month. Unfortunately, I miscarried. My OB later discovered I have a luteal phase defect, which means your uterus doesn't get thick enough to sustain a pregnancy. I was then given Estrace (estrogen) for 5 days following the Clomid to help thicken my lining and then Prometrium (progesterone) from day 16 of my cycle until the end - or until the end of my first trimester if I got pregnant. Clomid can cause your lining to thin a bit. It took another 8 months on Clomid, but I did conceive again. I had a full-term healthy baby girl.
I am on my 6th round of Clomid ttc again. Because I have been ovulating consistantly, my OB has referred me to a fertility specialist. The F/S said he doesn't do more than 3 rounds of Clomid because if Clomid is going to work, it usually does within that time. I am now 38, so because of my age, he recommends more aggresive approach - FSH injections or IVF. Unfortunately, my insurance does not cover any infertility treatments. Therefore, he suggested switching from Clomid to Femara because it doesn't have all the side effects Clomid does. The only side effect I experienced with Clomid is irritability. Other than that, I have gotten pregnant twice on it, so I know it's effective. Hopefully I conceived this month and won't have to consider any other options.
One more thing I want to mention. If your insurance doesn't cover Clomid or any other fertility meds, try Costco pharmacy (if you have one near you). You don't have to be a member to get prescriptions filled and they are the cheapest I've found. You can also try fertilitylifelines.com. This is the company my F/S recommends for meds. Best of luck to you.
I just read an aswer from "WKFromHome" and she brought up something very interesting. She had an HSG (hysterosalpingogram - which is a procedure done to see if your fallopian tubes are blocked) and the very next month she conceived. Well, the month before I conceived I had a laparoscopy (proceedure to check all reproductive organs). During the proceedure, my OB also did an HSG. My tubes were not blocked, but a mild case of endometriosis was discovered and removed. I always thought it was the endo that prevented me from conceiving. However, the F/S said that an HSG can be very theraputic and has seen many cases of women conceiving the month after having one. He said that may have been the case for me. So if I don't conceive this month, the F/S will do an HSG on me and then give me the Femara instead of the Clomid. You might want to mention this when you go to your F/S. Good luck.

Yes, I was on it and I highly recommend it. 9 months really is not that long at all. I truly can not believe that your doctor is sending you to a fertility clinic as most docs wont even think about it until you have tried for a year. You must have a very aggressive doctor :)
Here is my story: My husband and I were high school sweethearts, and we got married when we were 20. On our honeymoon, we got pregnant :) We were so happy. 9 months later, a beautiful little girl. When she was about 10 months old, we got off BC cause we wanted our children close together. So, we started TTC once she was one. We tried and tried and tried. 2 1/2 years later, I got pregnant, but had a M/C early on. One full year after that (3 1/2 years of TTC) I went in to the doctors. She ran lots and lots of tests and then she put me on Clomid. I got pregnant the first month I was on it. Then, had another Miscarriage. Three months later I was put back on Clomid and I had no success the first month. Then the second month my doctor ordered me an HSG (look on the Internet if you have questions about it) and kept me on Clomid. that month I conceived and I am now 8 weeks along :) I highly recommend it. It can't hurt anything if it doesn't work

I took it because I hadn't had my period at all 3 months after I stopped the birth control pill. (My doctor gave me provera first to induce my period.) I'm now pregnant! I only took it that one time, and I charted my temperature every day to know when I ovulated. My cycles were always long and, true to form, I ovulated on day 17 of my cycle instead of day 14. My home pregnancy test was negative 14 DPO but positive 19 DPO.
My brother's sister-in-law was also on clomid last fall, and she's now pregnant with twins! It's too early for me to know if I have one or more in there, though (I'm secretly hoping for twins).
My Mom, 30+ years ago, also had to take clomid to have me and my brother.
I had no side effects from clomid.

Yes, I have taken clomid on all different levels and I wished at that time somebody had told me what I was in for. You will expereince mild to severe mood changes ( I was severe either mad as hell or crying no in between). That is the WORST part of this medication. If you have nothing else going on like PCOS, clomid usually works for most woman. In my case the PCOS is so severe I still had a problem with ovulating even on the clomid. You need to mentally prepare your self (as best as possible) and your husband that mood strings could be severe, keep open lines of communication with him, such as if you are in swing let him know before he gets his head chopped off for saying "honey, what is for dinner" I personally was so bad, that I pointed at the dog dish and told him thats what is for dinner" (whats worst is I ment it) It's funny now, but it wasn't then. Good Luck with TTC.

I took it without any problem (didn't get pregnant either, though, LOL!!). Just make sure you also take some estrogen with it (your doctor will tell you which days) so that your cervical mucus stays thin and fertile, because clomid can cause it to dry up. Good luck!

I have never taken it but know several couples who conceived successfully after clomid. If your doctor is suggesting it because of ovulation issues, I would say go for it.

You should start by not wanting to get pregnant, just have sex everyday or every other day and don't think about getting pregnant, just have fun with your partner. Get more useful information and guides to get pregnant here https://tr.im/0ih2Q
after sex-put a pillow under your butt or prop your feet up on the wall so your pelvis is tilted
eat healthy
back off caffiene
workout, even if its just a 20 minute walk a day, be active.
