Emo is short for "emotional." Emo is a type of music, a broad title that covers a lot of different styles of emotionally-charged punk rock. However, a lot of people have taken it beyond the music and turned it into a way to dress. It's also being used to describe people who have an extraordinarily depressing nature, who are able to cry themselves to sleep everynight, and see the world through an entirely dark point of view. What will they think of next?

Back when I was a teenager, emo was one thing: the band Fugazi -- energetic, heavy post-punk with "sensitive lyrics." Emo has now morphed into this weird fashion/music/mentality blob characterized by boys in tight straight-legged jeans and shaggy dyed black hair, and girls in pretty much the same clothing. The music is horrible and wimpy. I think it's fairly wide-ranging -- sometimes it's screamy and heavy, and sometimes it's extremely soulful, but either way it is HUGELY wussy-***, just like the people who listen to it.

Basically, it's the worst fashion/music trend I've seen in my life.

emo is short for emotional. it actually doesn't mean emotional, though, when people use it. people use it to describe people, usually adolescent boys or girls, who are really depressed, when they are actually very fortunate and have no reason to be depressed. they take blurry pictures of themselves looking depressed and post them on myspace. some emo people also wear a lot of eyeliner, have dyed black hair (but those two things are not always emo), and sometimes cut their wrists.

its short for emotional.but emos are like the new goth. it has nothing to do with emotions.usually emo guys wear tight girl pants and tight girly shirts.if you ask me they are kinda scary..
