There are quite a few very normal reasons why you may already have a little belly. I was the same at the beginning of my pregnancy, but so far I haven't gained any more than I should have. Your baby is still very small but your body is already preparing itself for this little baby. It is probably just water you have gained so far, but the little belly that is there is protection for your little one. Sure it is possible you are having twins (which is what I thought, but I am not), but I doubt it. If you are generally a small person (I mean in the waist) you will show sooner.
I have been keeping an eye on my weight and although there is a few different opinions on how to do this (of course every pregnancy is different) I have been going by this one. You should gain about 3-5 lbs. in the first 12 weeks. After that you should gain approximately 1 pound a week and at the end you should have gained between 25-35 pounds. I know for me, at the beginning, before I had any symptoms, I gained 5 pounds all at once. Then when I started to get morning sickness, I got really sick and the only thing that made the nausea go away (although not for long) was eating foods I craved. I was eating about every 15-20 minutes. Of course alot of what I was craving was fruit, but I ate alot of pasta too. Other than the initial 5 pounds I gained though, I didn't gain anymore until I was 14 weeks pregnant. It was amazing to me that I was eating as much as I was and not gaining a thing. I guess the baby needed it. Anyway, even though some women don't show at all at the beginning, some women do. Everybody is different and every pregnancy is different. Just because you are showing now, doesn't mean you will be huge or necisarily that you are having twins. You may gain now and then nothing for a long time so that it evens itself out like it did with me. If I were you I wouldn't worry too much about it. Keep an eye on your weight and eat healthy, but dont obsess about it. The baby needs alot of nutrition, and you can always lose the weight after. Good Luck to you!!!

It could be twins. Have you been eating a lot more because you feel you have to eat for two now? I know I did with my first and ended up gaining 80 pounds. I am finally starting to lose it but she is 2 1/2 years old already. My second I ate right and only gained 10 pounds. You really don't eat for two when you're pregnant because think of how small the baby is, as long as you eat right you don't have to eat all that much more than normal. If you are eating the same then I would like maybe there is more then one in there. Goodluck!

I know a lot of women who had this issue. Once their morning sickness hit, they started to not show as much. When I first got pregnant I was so bloated and felt fat. I know that blood flow goes up quite a bit and so does water retention. At about 5/6 weeks, morning sickness hit and all of that went away (in fact, many people not knowing I was pregnant kept telling me how great I was looking and asked what I was doing to get in shape.) I wouldn't worry about it right now. It's definately not the baby since it's barely the size of a pea right now but more than likely water retention. Hopefully you won't go through morning sickness, at 24 weeks, I've just gotten back up to my weight pre-pregnancy. Don't freak out about the twin thing yet, it could always be twins, but at 5 weeks, you would be no larger with twins than with a single baby. That was what I freaked out about a lot prior to my ultrasound. Everyone kept saying maybe I was having twins because I was so horribly sick all the time. It really freaked me out, I didn't know how we could afford to have twins and keep my job.

I was the same. Probably water retention, high levels of proegstregon (sorry can't spell it), or gas. Trust me, u will get bigger, Im now 18 weeks and HUGE! Good luck
ps ignore the people below who say its impossible, Its not. I was the same and the dr told me it was down to the reasons I have stated above. It isn't the baby yet, but could be a number of other things

You are a healthy gal with a layer of fat covering the organs in your tummy, and now that a baby with a nice little amniotic sac is growing in there too, your tummy is starting to poke out. Be proud of your baby bump! I am a stick and I started showing pretty early, 'cause if I eat an apple I get a tummy. :P

Even with twins, you wouldn't be showing yet. Its probably just bloating. I was bloated terribly bad with my second pregnancy and was showing from about 5-6 wks until about 9wks. Then I started really showing with baby around 12-13 wks.
I wasn't gassy, or anything like that, just bloated and looked swollen.

You should not be getting bigger so soon. Women are supposed to gain about 30 pounds during pregnancy, but you don't normally start to show until about 5 months into your pregnancy. It may be that you need to monitor how much you're eating. Perhaps you don't realize - because you should be careful about developing diabetes during your pregnancy. Or it could simply be a little bloating. Mention it to your doctor at the next visit.

Hi!
My last peiord started Nov. 18, and I too am pregnant. My stomach is so bloated, it's crazy, but I think it's just water weight, I don't think you can "show" at 5 weeks...

I was the same as you. I was showing early but it was mainly that I was bloated cause I didn't really start showing a cute round preggy belly til I was 5 months pregnant.
