Wrap the pillow case around the can and swing it really hard, also you can use the pillow case as a sling and huck it out the window and with the right amount of force it should open :]

Pillow cases no longer work with cans. I recommend using a nice smelly sock. The grip is much better.

Surely you must be doing something wrong. Try loading the pillowcase with large rocks and then drop it on the can from high above. Surely this will work.
