Here is a story I like; A man was walking on a beach at low tide and noticed a young man throwing starfish that were stranded on the beach back into the water. The man asked the boy why he was doing this. The boy replied, "These starfish cannot survive with the tide going out, they will dry up and die on the sand." The man said, "But look at all the starfish on this beach, and think of all the stranded starfish in the world, you can't save them all, you can't possibly make a difference to them." The young man picked up another starfish, threw it in the water, and said, "Made a difference to that one."
It is so easy to become overwhelmed with all the problems in the world, but by focusing smaller, trying to make a difference in your town, community or family, you can make a small change, and that may make all the difference to someone. Happy holidays!

The reason we cannot change the world... is that it requires the participation of every man and woman to do so.
How can one person change the world by doing the right thing when 6 billion people are doing the wrong thing?
Even if you could get one billion people to do the right thing... the other 5 billion would still win.
You need at least 3 billion of them participating for anything to start having an effect.

An unrelenting, unbiased, universally open-minded perspective, extreme persistence, unconditional love... and trillions of dollars! In all honesty, changing the entire "world" is extremely optomistic, but making the world better for people around you is pretty simple. Keep compassion and apathy for others a priority and even the smallest positive moments you create can change their world and yours for the better. Stay positive, stay righteous.

Action! Most of us talk of the ills affecting the world , but very few of us are willing to do anything about it. Conversation, questions, answers, debates and complaints fall upon the deaf ears of the world. Action is the only true catalyst for change. If you believe something can be helpful, simply do it! You can change the world.

Simple. Reach out to the needy if you can, put a smile on your face to share with the world and you'll make a difference. It's really inspiring to see the effect just a smile and a kind word can produce, what with all the self absorbed these days. Islands are lonely places.

Change the world for one person, and convince them to do the same.
The chain reaction that could ensue will mesmerize the world, change it into the world it should be, a world where people think of how their actions will affect other people.

A strong commitment to voice your opinion on what you believe in, the only problem is getting someone to listen to you. I have so many opinions on things and do nothing, as most of us do. Oh yes and of course money, it seems to be what makes the world go round. Those with money get noticed, sad but true.

Mahatma Gandhi once said, "Be the change you wish to see in the world." I think his suggestion reflects one of the absolute best pieces of advice of all time. We can not control what others do, but we can certainly take responsibility for our own words and actions.

Help at least one other human being stand on their own feet, or be a responsible member of society. Teach them the importance of then reaching out to others. You don't need to help the "whole world". Just reach out to as many as you can.
Watch the movie "Pay it Forward". Wonderful story on the same theme.

I hold this utopian ideal of a place where enmities among the populace of earth can be forgotten and we can work hand in hand.
I suppose you gotta start small though, mom always used to tell me to be nice to someone and tell them to be nice to someone else as a way of thanking me :). What a great concept.
