Your question isn't complete. Sounds like a homework question anyway. And the malloc statement is written improperly.

The usage of a malloc function should be p = malloc(number*sizeof(p)). You do not cast a malloc. You do not mention the type anywhere. Notice how i didn't do sizeof(int) or sizeof(float). I used the variable itself sizeof(p).

And did I mention do not cast?
